Authentic Colt brings $1M in OBS March Finale

OCALA, Fla.—The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2024 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training concluded today. Hip No. 788, a daughter of Win Win Win consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold to Donato Lanni, Agent for Zedan Racing for $1.8-millon to top the third and final session. The bay filly, who sped a quarter in a track record equaling :20 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session, is out of Unanimity, by Union Rags, from the family of grade one stakes winner Discreet Cat.

Hip No. 601, a son of Authentic consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, went to Resolute Bloodstock for $1,000,000. The chestnut colt, who worked an eighth on Friday in :9 4/5, is out of stakes placed Ruby Trust, by Smart Strike, a daughter of graded stakes winner Queen Ofthe Catsle.

For the session, 125 horses sold for a total of $18,912,600 compared with 153 horses bringing $24,069,000 in 2023. The average price was $151,301 compared with $157,314. The median price was $80,000 compared with $75,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 29.8%; it was 17.7% last year.

For the entire sale, 447 horses grossed $66,487,600 compared with 464 bringing $71,473,500 in 2023. The average price was $148,742 compared with $154,038 last year and the median price was $75,000 unchanged from 2023. The buyback percentage was 25.1%; it was 20.7% in 2023.

Hip No. 613, a daughter of Bernardini consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold to Speedway Stables, LLC, for $875,000. The bay filly, who worked an eighth on Friday in :10 flat, is out of graded stakes winner Salamera, by Successful Appeal, a half-sister to stakes winner Vivaldi Girl.

Hideyuki Mori went to $800,000 for Hip No. 617, a son of Constitution consigned by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, who breezed an eighth on Friday in :9 4/5. The chestnut colt is out of graded stakes winner Sand Puce (ARG) by Footstepsinthesand, a half-sister to stakes winner Stormy Publisher (ARG).

Hip No. 681, a daughter of Uncle Mo consigned by Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, was purchased by Seth Morris, Agent for Hit The Bid Stables for $600,000. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 flat, is a full sister to stakes winner Be Better out of Social Call, by Smart Strike.

AMO Racing went to $600,000 for Hip No. 832, a daughter of Uncle Mo consigned by Kings Equine, Agent. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Saturday, is out of graded stakes placed West Coast Chick, by Malibu Moon, a half-sister to grade one stakes winning OBS graduate Klimt.

Hip No. 639, a daughter of Game Winner consigned by Wavertree Stables, Inc. (Ciaran Dunne), Agent, was sold for $500,000 to Donato Lanni, Agent for Michael Lund Petersen. The bay filly, who breezed an eighth on Friday in :10 flat, is out of Sefani, by American Pharoah, a daughter of stakes winner Seacrettina.

MyRacehorse.com paid $500,000 for Hip No. 641, a son of Liam’s Map consigned by Scanlon Training & Sales, Agent, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat on Saturday. The gray or roan colt is out of Send Me On My Way, by Tiznow, a half-sister to graded stakes placed Roman Centurian, from the family of grade one stakes winner Finder’s Fee.

Hip No. 745, a daughter of Uncle Mo, consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, went to Louis Dubois, Agent for Wesley Ward, for $500,000. The bay filly, whose eighth in :9 4/5 on Saturday was the session’s co-fastest, is out of graded stakes winner Take Charge Paula, by Take Charge Indy.  

Hip No. 849, a son of Authentic consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was purchased for $450,000 by Rodolphe Brisset, Agent for Ann Harrison. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 flat, is out of Wise Strike, by Smart Strike, a half-sister to stakes winner Summer House.

Taproot Bloodstock, Agent, went to $325,000 for Hip No. 668, a son of Curlin consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent. The chestnut colt worked an eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5, and is a half-brother to graded stakes winning OBS graduate Fore Left out of Simply Sunny, by Unbridled’s Song.

Hip No. 767, a daughter of Medaglia d’Oro consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent for the Complete Dispersal for Lothenbach Stables, Inc. went to T.W. Bachman for $325,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who galloped at the Under Tack Show, is out of graded stakes placed stakes winner Tomlin, by Distorted Humor, a daughter of graded stakes winner Belle of Perintown.

Hip No. 823, a daughter of Flatter consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, was sold for $325,000 to Taproot Bloodstock, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who turned in an eighth in :10 1/5 on Saturday, is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Steal Sunshine, recent winner of the Gulfstream Park Mile Stakes (G2), out of Warm Sunshine, by Unbridled’s Song.

Hip No. 774, a daughter of McKinzie consigned by Old South Farm LLC, Agent, was sold to SBM, Agent, for $300,000. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed an eighth on Saturday in :10 1/5, and is out of Travelers’ Way, by Afleet Alex, a half-sister to grade one stakes winner Rattlesnake Bridge.

Next on the OBS schedule is the Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, set for Tuesday, April 16th through Friday, April 19th. All sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Under Tack Show begins Sunday, April 7th and continues through Saturday, April 13th with all sessions starting at 8:00 a.m.
