PTW SEC Round Up: The SEC Continues to Reign Supreme

Recapping the week that was in the SEC and around college football

Another week in the books, we will recap my picks and my disappointing week shortly. The SEC had a great week with Texas completing a historic comeback at home against Ohio State in dramatic fashion. Oregon, arguably the 2nd best team in the country and certainly the Big Ten coming into the season laid an egg at Oklahoma State. Oregon now through 2 games has disappointed severely which sets them with an all or nothing game at USC in 2 weeks. It’s starting to become clear that I think Dan Lanning is a bit overrated in the grand scheme of things. He has the makings of the classic coach that hires great coordinators but when he misses on a few it will expose him. Similar to Ed Orgeron who had 2 of the best coordinators in Dave Aranda and Joe Brady (now Buffalo Bills HC)/Steve Ensminger, once they both moved on his wins cratered and he was fired shortly after.

However, the SEC continues to impress from top to bottom. Obviously the big dogs have performed well but, Mississippi State has shown the most to me. Kamario Taylor single handedly crushed Minnesota’s hear on Saturday. They opened with game with 4 straight TD drives and the game was basically over before Minnesota even knew what was happening. If Miss. State is pushing around Big Ten teams then that’s a sign the Big Ten has serious problems about the depth of their conference. Will the CFP committee care when they let 9-3 Ohio State in over a 2 loss SEC team? Probably not.

Week 2 Betting Recap

Kansas looked like a sure winner through 2 quarters and then they had brutal sequence of turnovers and allowing defensive scores, plus they just could not keep up with the Missouri offense. I clearly underrated Austin Simmons as a QB as he has just completely changed his game from when he was at Ole Miss.

Kentucky looked like a sure winner as well for about 40 minutes but then Alabama forced a turnover, quick score, and the one of the worst fake punts I’ve ever seen and it was downhill from there.

Georgia Tech could not overcome a brutal Pick 6 but this one floated around the number nearly all game. Ultimately Georgia Tech is who we thought they were after losing to Colorado which is they are just not very good.

Texas was a battle for a push! They were lifeless for about 3 quarters and the Ryan Day completely turtled which he likes to do when playing against non Big Ten teams on the road. I’m still not sold on Arch, he played a great 4th quarter but there were some plays in the 1H where he looked completely lost.

Utah was about as easy as it gets. They are an exciting team to watch with their 2 QB packages. I really like their offense and to me it feels like Wittingham leaving for Michigan is like Brian Kelly leaving ND. Sometimes you need the old guy to leave and let someone else come in to get them over the top. Are you paying attention Rutgers? Also a part of this handicap was that Arkansas just flat out sucks.

Syracuse/Boise ML Parlay Syracuse had no business losing this game to Cal. Post game win expectancy pointed in favor of Syracuse who could not stop turning the ball over. Boise started slow but ending winning easily.

Overall a 1-4-1 day. Should have been better honestly.

Week 3 Card

Georgia -25 back to the well with this awful Arkansas team. 2 parts to this handicap, Georgia has been putting it on teams the first two weeks and not relenting. Second part is that the new Arkansas Coach Ryan Silverfield last year made comments about Georgia and their players getting arrested for speeding frequently, which is actually true. That’s something Kirby Smart hears and holds on to and will use it as a reason to win by 60.

Alabama -19.5 another revenge spot here. Alabama will look to get their pound of flesh for last year’s beat down by FSU. This is Deboer’s bread and butter. Home game vs a non-con inferior opponent. FSU and their offense is dreadful. Alabama names it here.

Miss State/SC Over 59.5 these teams have electric QB’s who will be able to move the ball effectively. I think both teams go up and down the field here in a back and forth high scoring affair.

Florida ML -140 I have liked what I’ve seen from Florida lately and I did not like the way the Auburn offense looked against Baylor. I think Florida has the front to shut down Byrum Brown.

LSU Team Total Over 31 personally I think LSU wins this game in what will be an apocalyptic atmosphere. However I think the surest bet is Lane Kiffin and the offense getting theirs over this Ole Miss defense that just hasn’t been very good this year, especially on the back end.
