NTRA Release

CAPITOL HILL—This week, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) hosted its second Annual NTRA Kentucky Derby Kick-off Reception on Capitol Hill. The event’s goal was to build on our first two years of having an office and team in Washington, D.C. by increasing awareness for NTRA and the greater sport of Thoroughbred racing on Capitol Hill.

We hosted more than 600 attendees, including many key staff who play a key role in the legislating process. We also hosted Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY-06), Congressman Morgan McGarvey (D-KY-03), Congressman Ralph Norman (R-SC-05), and Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY-20), who all champion horse racing and advocate for the sport and our interests. This Congress, Reps Barr and McGarvey have joined forces in introducing two bipartisan bills which encourage investment in the Thoroughbred industry through various tax incentives.

The National Museum of Racing was generous enough to lend us the Count Fleet Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby trophies, which were a hit for attendees to take pictures of. Additionally, Coolmore provided halters worn by Triple Crown Winners American Pharoah and Justify, and we had life-sized cutouts of both champions. All cocktails were served in official 150th Kentucky Derby glasses ordered from Churchill Downs and John Deere provided 150th Derby hats as well.

This event will continue to be a capstone feature on the legislative calendar for the NTRA Washington team, as we continue to work to advance racing’s interests through the legislative process.

This is so beautifully written; You bought a horse and took him to a farm moved me. Bless You.
