November 22, 2021

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.  — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will offer free admission to students ages 6 through 18 and college students with school identification from Friday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 28. Children and their families visiting the Museum those days can take part in a Museum-wide scavenger hunt. Children ages 5 and under are always free with an accompanying adult.

While visiting the Museum, make sure to check out the current special exhibitions, some of which will be closing after Jan. 2, 2022, including:

Women in Racing, McBean Gallery — For more than 100 years, women have been participating in the sport of thoroughbred racing in America. The pioneers and trailblazers of the past paved the way for future generations of horse lovers and racing enthusiasts, allowing them to continue to break boundaries in a male-dominated sport and industry. Featuring art, photographs, and multimedia from the Museum Collection and on loan, Women in Racing celebrates the women involved in every aspect of thoroughbred racing and shares their stories through a timeline of firsts, portraits, thematic cases, and an interactive exhibit. The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame acknowledges the support of the Edward P. Evans Foundation in underwriting this special exhibition. This exhibit will be closing after Jan. 2, 2022.

Muybridge and Motion: Selections from the Tang Teaching Museum Collection, Link Gallery — Featuring a series of groundbreaking animal locomotion photographic studies by English photographer Eadweard Muybridge (1830 – 1904) from the Tang Teaching Museum collection and paintings by American artist Henry Stull (1851 – 1913) from the National Museum of Racing collection, this exhibition illustrates how the technological advancements in photography made by Muybridge forever changed the way motion is depicted and understood, particularly in the field of equine art. This exhibition is part of “All Together Now,” a regional collection-sharing project organized by The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College with the support of the Henry Luce Foundation. This exhibit will be closing after Jan. 2, 2022.

Our newest exhibition, the 3rd annual Photo Finish Juried Photography Exhibition, is now on display in the von Stade Gallery and online on the Museum website (https://racingmuseum.org/exhibits/photo-finish-juried-photography-exhibition). Featuring the work of 49 photographers from 14 states, the selected photographs document the entire racing experience, from the farm to the backstretch to the winner’s circle, including several images that highlight how Covid-19 impacted the racing world in 2020. The von Stade Gallery exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 20, 2022, and the online exhibition be available through October 2022. The call for submissions for the 4th annual Photo Finish Juried Photography Exhibition will be announced early in 2022.
