Gary Stevens Calls It a Day

November 21, 2018

What else was left for Gary Stevens to accomplish in the saddle? Nothing really. This three time Kentucky Derby winner along with a slew of Breeders Cups and stakes all over the world has done it all at the highest levels of the game. His longevity in the saddle has been nothing short of remarkable.

Of all his achievements his epic comeback off a 7 year layoff capped by a win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic is my personal favorite. I had a chance to talk at length with Gary about that comeback and wrote about it. I still say it was more than Eclipse worthy. It was without a doubt one of the best comebacks in not just the Sport of Kings but all of sports. After being injured in the paddock Gary found out he had a back injury which could become very dangerous if he were to fall or get injured again. He will be missed as a rider but I doubt he is out of the game at all.

You can read Encore here if you missed it or would like to go back to one heckuva comeback……..

ENCORE Gary Stevens

Nice selection at Los Al. I'm not here to butter you up because I'm not looking for anything. And you're not always right...... but who is? However. you are truly brilliant at this game. You seem to have a 6th scent......it's an insight to the game that is remarkable. It takes so much talent to beat this game. The math skills, a good memory, knowledge, guts, and so much more... and you've got it all. You must have a very high IQ. You could have done so many things with your life and been successful. "You could have been a contender!" However, this is the life you chose. I know nobody who does it better. My hat's off to you. You're truly the greatest!
