Sequence Begins with 8-5 ML Favorite, $100,000 Via Borghese and $100,000 Abundantia Included
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Gulfstream Park will close out the calendar year with a 20-cent Rainbow 6 gross jackpot pool guaranteed at $850,000 Friday afternoon.
The New Year’s Eve jackpot will begin with the third race, a 1 1/16-mile claiming event for 2-year-old fillies on the Tapeta. Laniakea Storm drops into the claimer after three races against restricted maiden special weight company. Leading rider Luis Saez has the mount for trainer Jose D’Angelo. Blame the Vets, a daughter of Kitten’s Joy, will leave from the rail for trainer Tom Proctor.
The Rainbow 6 sequence will the $100,000 Via Borghese at 1 3/8th-mile turf course and the $100,000 Abundantia at five furlongs on the turf.
Candy Flower, Sorrel and Harajuku enter the Via Borghese from the Long Island (G3) at Belmont Park Nov. 27, while Beautiful Lover, Hungry Kitten and Always Shopping enter off the Zagora at Belmont Nov. 7.
The Abundantia drew 10-time winner Miss Auramet, and stakes winners Miss J McKay, Introduced, Ambassador Luna and Morning Molly.
The Rainbow 6 jackpot is paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.
