Thursday Del Mar Feature

DMTC Release

DEL MAR, Calif.—Nick Alexander’s homebred filly Loretta Lynn lay up close for most of the trip, then assumed command at the top of the stretch and went on to a two and a quarter length triumph in the $77,000 allowance feature on the Thursday card at Del Mar.

The daughter of Grazen covered a mile on the main track in 1:40.68 to turn back six California-bred rivals. She earned a first prize of $45,600 and, as the 1.10-to-1 favorite, paid her backers in the mid-week crowd $4.20.

Kyle Frey rode the winner for trainer Phil D’Amato.

The tally was her second in her fifth lifetime start. She also has a second and a third and now sports earnings of $117,700.

Finishing second was owner Alexander’s Nanci Griffith, who had a length and three quarters on Ronald Yayhoshi’s Dendera.

Racing will be back on the menu at Del Mar tomorrow with a regular Friday start of 4 p.m.
