Anthony Fontaine Looks at the Keeneland Sunday Racing Card

October 6, 2019

Anthony had a strong day yesterday and he is looking for a repeat today in the Keeneland Sunday racing card.

There is some rain in the forecast for Keeneland today and they really need every drop.

Race One: Selections 1-7-2-4

#1Ruler of the Nile has been sharp when running among his friends. Had a foray into some tough customers at the Spa and did not fare as well, however today’s assignment would seem to be much more manageable. Will be tough to deny today.

#7 Griff has performed well this season albeit a bit light in the win department. Lands a spot where he can work out a nice trip and can gain a major share late. #2 Zaevion will not be 30 to 1 today however the last race indicates he has the ability to be highly competitive with this group.

Race Two: Selections 5-6-3-4

#5 Midnight Sway loves to come from off the pace but rider will have to be mindful that the stretch at this oval is very short. If the signed on speed does come through this one may have an ideal setup today.

#6 JDs Girl will hope to find friendlier competition today as the last race was totally outrun. A return to form is not out of the question as this one had previously displayed ability to compete with similar runners, and the rider has been known to have the ability to get the most out of his mounts. One to seriously consider at a nice price. #3 What a Fox will take a slight hike in price after a very nice win in most recent race. The tactical speed this one possesses will be key to chances today as it pays to be close in this short stretch. Runner will take lots of action and looks formidable today.

Race Three: Selections 10-7-6-2

#10 Peekacho has only one victory on a fast surface however this one tries hard each and every time. Primarily a turf runner, I think this one has the right style for this 9 furlong event and while many will be looking for the oxygen truck turning for home, this one will be hitting his best stride.

#7 Mark My Way has made a living at the starter allowance condition and has fared well. I rate this one a shot against this field even if other players might balk at the suggestion since he comes from the Ohio circuit. #6 Frost or Frippery figures to take some action in this spot and should give a good account of himself. Lanerie and Hartman hit on all cylinders so must include in multi race wagers.

Race Four: Selections 9-1-12-7

#9 Bless the Kitten has been working well for the debut and gets a good gate rider in Saez who will ensure a good beginning. It is well known the Ramsey’s target this meet and everything they run will be live for the next few weeks. One to seriously consider.

#1 Invader improved in his second effort and will look to build off that good effort. Should get some pace to chase and be formidable in the lane. #12 Opposite Field debuts for the powerful Chad Brown barn. Works are ok but I will use caution with this one mainly because Brown just got done with a successful Spa meet where he had a plethora of entries, yet this one was with the weaker string at Monmouth. Hey trainers have been wrong before, ala Maximum Security running for a tag, but with the short price the connections will bring I will use sparingly.

Race Five: Selections 3-6-8-7

#3 Grandaria loves todays distance and will be glad to get away from Stake Company. Horse that beat her last out has been knocking heads with the best 3 year old fillies in the nation so no disgrace there and I feel this one can handle this field at a nice price.

#6 Bellera appears to have a bright future as she has ran three very good races in her career. Speedy types will l have to be cautious not to get in a duel or she will be on fumes in the lane but Jose Ortiz is riding lights out at the 2 day old meet and is making all the right moves. This is the one everyone has to beat to cash. #8 High Regard appears to fit nicely in this spot. This runner would love a speed duel to develop or at the very least a decent pace to run into. So far for the meet I would say the track is playing fair so runner does have a shot even with the short stretch if good enough.

Race Six: Selections 7-4-9-6

#7 Gretchen has worked well for the debut and although connections are not well known they are capable of popping at a price. The rider does well on this circuit so this one warrants serious consideration today.

#4 Glamor Girl played bumper cars down the lane in last race and settled for third. Should be better with the experience and with a good trip can be tough to deny today. #9 Tempers Rising figures to take lots of action as this one appears poised to make a breakthrough today. Has shown some greenness in both races and expect her to be able to put it all together with Castellano taking the reins. Look out!.

Race Seven The Indian Summer: Selections 1-3-2-9

#1 Old Chesnut has found a home on the lawn running two identical races winning both in fine time. The rail can be tricky however this runner has previously won out of this slot so should not be an issue.

#3 Mystic Lancelot may not have appreciated the yielding course last out and will welcome a return to a firm surface. This runner seems versatile and would like to have some pace to close into and may just get that with a number of speedy types signed on. #2 Kimari won a minor stake at the Spa by open lengths however the figure can back a tad light. That does not mean this one is not capable of better but would be wary taking a short number especially with others in the field that may be on the upswing.

Race Eight The G3 Bourbon: Selection 3-5-6-11

#3 Doc Boy was involved in a rough stretch drive last out at Laurel and may have taken the worst of it yet ran on to a respectable finish. The rider is dynamite on the lawn and with so many other big name jockeys at this meet may get lost in the sauce which is what I am hoping for as this one has a big shot to take this event at a nice number.

#5 Fighting Seabee was allowed to waltz around the course at a leisurely pace and wired a Grade 3 field at the Spa. Tis one will have company up front today and although talented as proven in debut run where he passed horses nicely, I am always wary of a horse coming back after having everything go their way in a race. #6 Field Pass exits the same race as the 3 at laurel and was floated out when the bumping started, losing ground. Runner was game and although 4th lost by only a length so this runner should be given some consideration for his grit and determination even under difficult circumstances.

Race Nine The G1 Spinster: Selections 5-2-1-3

#5 Elate will prep for a run in the Breeders Cup while trying to take this event against a short field. Ran lights out last time to miss by a nose to the leading Distaff horse in the nation so although she will be a very short price, I would hesitate to single as some regression may occur.

#2 Blue Prize is the type of horse people dream about. A model of consistency throughout her career, she always tries hard and delivers a good performance. She has shown an affinity for this surface and if the favorite were to stub her toe I feel this is the most likely beneficiary. #1 Dunbar Road has done little wrong in her career and appears to have a bright future. She will face older horses today and some tough runners however she looks poised to establish herself so will rate her a good chance in all the slots.

Race Ten: Selections 10-5-2-4

#10 Hallawallah will be glad to get back to a shorter distance and with the post position the rider should have options concerning the pace. This one is poised to get back on track as I feel the future will be a sprinting and the price will be right today.

#5 Grandezza is another that will like a shorter distance to navigate as the longer races have not been kind to her. Trainer is sharp and spots his horses carefully and this one should give a good account of herself in this spot. #2 Summer Delivery goes for the potent Sims/Lanerie combination that put up great numbers throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This filly seems a hard trying type that should get a good setup today, and Lanerie is very adroit at ensuring a good trip for his mounts. Do not sell this one short today.

This is so beautifully written; You bought a horse and took him to a farm moved me. Bless You.
