The Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2022 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training begins Sunday, April 10th, and continues through Saturday, April 16th. All seven sessions begin at 8:00 a.m.
Hip No.’s 1-176 will breeze on Sunday. Hip No.’s 177-352 go to the track Monday; Hip No.’s 353-528 breeze Tuesday; Hip No.’s 529-704 work Wednesday, Hip No.’s 705-880 breeze Thursday, Hip No’s 881-1056 work on Friday and Hip No’s 1057-1231 will go to the track Saturday.
The Sale is set for Tuesday, April 19th through Friday, April 22nd with each session beginning at 10:00 a.m. Hip No.’s 1-308 go on the block Tuesday, Hip No.’s 309-616 will be offered Wednesday, Hip No.’s 617-924 sell Thursday and Hip No.’s. 925-1231 will sell on Friday.
The Under Tack Show will be streamed live via the OBS website at obssales.com and via the TDN, DRF, Blood-Horse and Past The Wire websites. The workouts will be recorded and can be viewed on the website, in their entirety or by individual hip number. They will also be available in the Video Room as well as several kiosks in the breezeway and covered walking ring. Visitors to Ocala will find the videos available for in-room viewing at The Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites, Residence Inn and the Ocala Hilton, plus lounge viewing is available at the Hilton. Under Tack Show results are posted on the OBS website.
Online bidding will again be available. Bidders must register in advance. For more information, please go to the OBS website at: online bidding information. Walking videos and conformation photos may be available in addition to under tack videos for each horse.
The catalog can be viewed via the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The website’s searchable and sortable master index provides links to under tack videos, pedigree and consignor information as well as pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. It has also been updated to allow shortlist creation. A link to instructions can be found in the index header and a step by step tutorial is available in the index as well.
The iPad version of the entire catalog is available via the equineline Sales Catalog app. The app allows users to download and view the catalog, record notes and also provides innovative search, sort and rating capability. The middle link in OBS’s three-part Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale schedule, the Spring Sale is a showcase for talented youngsters consigned by both market breeders and pinhookers. The performance of the sale’s graduates has fueled this growth, with OBS Spring Sale grads currently enjoying a spectacular year making headlines coast to coast and around the world.
Speedway Stables LLC’s unbeaten Corniche ended 2021 on a high note with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and the Eclipse Award as champion 2-Year-Old Male. Consigned to the 2021 OBS Spring Sale by de Meric Sales, Agent, he breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat and was purchased by Marette Farrell, Agent, for a sale-topping $1,500,000. Robert E. and Lawana L. Low’s Colonel Liam got the new year off to a rousing start by successfully defending his title in Gulfstream’s $982,300 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes (G1). The 5-year-old son of Liam’s Map, trained by Todd Pletcher, giving him four graded stakes wins, a 11-7-0-1 career record and $1,810,565 in earnings. OBS Spring Sale graduates next made headlines overseas with a one-two finish in the $20-million Saudi Cup (G1), with Prince Saud Bin Salman Abdulaziz’s Emblem Road edging fellow OBS Spring graduate Country Grammer. It was the third stakes win for the 4-year-old colt by Quality Road, trained by Mitab Almulawah, now 9-7-1-1 and the latest OBS millionaire with earnings of $10,204,734. Consigned to the 2020 OBS Spring Sale by Wavertree Stables, Inc. OBS Spring Sale success found its way Down Under in March when LNJ Foxwoods’ Lighthouse captured the $600,000 ATC Coolmore Cup (G1) at Australia’s Rosehill Gardens. It was the first graded stakes victory for the 6-year-old daughter of Mizzen Mast, trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eust, now 17-8-5-1 with six stakes wins and $973,383 in earnings. Zedan Racing, Winstar Farm and Commonwealth Thoroughbreds’ Country Grammer continued his lucrative campaign with a victory in the $12-million Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan. It was the second grade one stakes win for the 5-year-old son of Tonalist, trained by Bob Baffert, leaving him with a 10-4-2-1 career record and $10,851,685 in earnings. KHK Racing’s Shahama is also going for five straight, coming in off a victory in the UAE Oaks (G3) at Meydan. A half sister to champion Lookin At Lucky, she’s trained by Fawzi Nass and has earned $223,484 to date. Hidden Brook Farm and Black Type Thoroughbreds’ Hidden Connection, winner of the Pocahontas Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs in September, comes into the Oaks off a second place finish by a nose to champion Echo Zulu in the recent Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). The daughter of Connect is a two-time OBS graduate, going through the ring at the 2021 Spring Sale, then purchased for $85,000 out of the Coastal Equine consignment at the 2021 June Sale after breezing an Under Tack quarter in :21 2/5.
