LEXINGTON, Ky. – A colt by Upstart from the family of Grade 1 winners Mongolian Groom, Versailles Treaty and George Vancouver along with Grade 2 winners Dragon Bay and Saarland sold for $95,000 to Nadir Khassanov to top a strong day of trade during Friday’s 11th session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale with one day remaining in the auction.
Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, the colt is out of the Oxbow mare Amiens.
Khassanov purchased six horses for 145,000 to lead buyers for the session.
On Thursday, a total of 206 yearlings sold through the ring for $3,568,000, for an average of $17,320 and a median of $11,500. The gross is 16.58% higher than the total of $3,060,000 from the corresponding session last year. The average is 5.82% higher than $16,367 in 2023, and the median is 4.55% above $11,000.
With one day remaining in the September Sale, Keeneland has sold 2,532 horses through the ring for $409,087,500, for an average of $161,567 and a median of $80,000. The gross is 4.44% higher than the same period last year when 2,579 horses sold for $391,710,300. The average is 6.37% above $151,885 in 2023, while the median is 6.67% than $75,000.
In other sales Thursday, J. Brocklebank purchased a son of First Samurai for $80,000. Consigned by Lantern Hill Farm, agent, the colt is from the family of Grade 1 winner Nine Keys, Grade 2 winner Clef d’Argent and Grade 3 winner Happy Like a Fool. His dam is the Exaggerator mare French Curline.
Two horses sold for $77,000 each.
A Gormley colt out of stakes winner Maybellene, by Lookin At Lucky, sold to Faisal Alajmi for the amount. Consigned by Clarkland Farm, he is from the family of Group 1 winners Heart of Darkness and India as well as Grade/Group 3 winners Rossini, Elusive Quality and Ivory Wand.
Lantern Hill Farm, agent, also consigned a son of Vekoma sold for $77,000 to Maddie Mattmiller, agent. The colt, who is out of the Empire Maker mare Summer Again, is from the family of Grade 3 winners Summer Mis and stakes winners Summer’s Empire, Set to Sizzle, Smile n’ Dance, Julie’s Prize and Ten Thirty.
Two yearlings sold for $70,000 each.
A colt by Instagrand from the family of Canadian champion Wavering Girl and Grade 2 winners Speed Dialer, Tricky Creek, Parade Ground, Parade Leader and Bay Storm went to Michael McMillan for the amount. Out of Switchboard, by Bernardini, he was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Royal Flush Racing paid $70,000 for a filly by Vekoma consigned by Hartwell Farm, agent. Out of the winning Mineshaft mare Brewster Flats, she is from the family of champion Epitome, Grade 2 winners War Story and Land Over Sea and Grade 3 winner Shared Property
Legacy Bloodstock sold 21 yearlings for $387,500 to lead consignors.
