“I just want to get my license there, bring some horses there, start racing, start winning and losing, just like anyone else,”
Rick Dutrow
Trainer Rick Dutrow is now licensed in both New York and Kentucky and is on his way to restoring his place in the sports history as a Kentucky Derby winning trainer with a Preakness win, three Breeders’ Cup wins, two Dubai World Cups, three Eclipse Champion horses and 26 Grade 1 victories. Rick Dutrow’s horses have earned over 87 million dollars on the race track and he has over 1800 wins from just over 7200 starters and counting.
Rick was originally granted a trainers license by the New York State Gaming Commission on April 4th, 2023 after serving a controversial 10 year ban from the sport. You can read about his reinstatement here.
Rick immediately returned to his winning ways and demonstrated he was just fine off the 10 year layoff winning with his first starter on none other than Kentucky Derby day with Prince of Pharoahs. Everyone was watching the Derby but that didn’t get by us.
Dutrow stated he has 23 horses in his barn at Belmont Park as well as “a bunch of them on farms that I would consider under my care; it’s too many to count.”

Dutrow currently has White Abarrio in training for the Grade 1 Metropolitan Mile to be run on the Belmont Stakes undercard.
Rick was gracious enough to grant Past the Wire TV his first interview after gaining his license back. You can watch that here:
