Sunshine Millions Day at Gulfstream Park Full Card Analysis by Anthony Fontaine

January 17, 2020

Anthony Fontaine has done his homework on the Sunshine Millions card. He provides his selections, and his thought process on all the runners he feels are contenders.

Race One Selections: 4-9-11-7

#4 Lonely Private ran evenly last out at Churchill and gets the services of Castellano for todays race. Has worked super with a bullet and should be highly competitive.

#9 Dr. Doyle found the distance too much last out and returns to sprinting where had better result, should be formidable from the bell to the wire. #11 Palace Kid finally makes it to the grass and is bred well for the surface. Should offer value at the window and can boost payouts with a good trip.

Race Two Selections: 2-1-3-4

#2 Miriam’s Sky tries conventional dirt for the first time and can surprise at a nice price. The Canadian shippers have been quiet so far this meet however this runner looks competitive.

#1 Gone Diesel takes a huge drop-in class after being noncompetitive in the last few. This is not a field of world beaters and any improvement outs this one in the midst. #3 El Zeus has shown good speed in the past and will try to work out a good trip, staying close then pouncing. Another that should offer value.

Race Three Selections: 2-4-5-7

#2 Excalibur takes a big drop fin an attempt to find friendlier competition. Should improve at this level and be a threat in the lane.

#4 Ultra confident had one subpar effort at the maiden allowance level and reemerges in this easier spot. Works are ok and this one appears to have a longshot look today. #5 Dry Land gets on conventional dirt after showing good speed in last event up north on the synthetic. If this one takes to the surface should give a good performance.

Race Four Selections: 2-4-8-7

#2 Leading West ran well off a short layoff last out and will look to build off that effort. Trainer has scintillating numbers second time off a layoff and should offer value with the Chad Brown taking tons of money.

#4 Complex System closed well for a good second in the debut and ships to warmer weather. Will need to avoid traffic however pilot is very good so expect a huge effort. #8 Bee Catcher has had some even efforts and appears like the type to need some pace to run at. Has experience which is never to be discounted and rates a chance at a good price.

Race Five Selections: 5-3-1-4

#5 Dizzy always runs competitively however has a hard time finding the winners circle. Todays field appears to be within this one’s wheelhouse and a top effort should give this one the ever elusive second victory.

#3 Denver loves to win races and will need to bring his A game in this contest. Popular at the claim game this runner looks competitive in this spot. #1 Assume Control had a wide trip last out and should get a better trip today from this post. Look for an improved effort from this runner today.

Race Six Selections: 7-9-3-1

#7 More Chances gets back on the lawn after racing evenly last time on the surface in a stake race. Back with maidens today and first time Matz this runner will offer some value and can surprise in this spot at a nice number.

#9 Win d’ Oro bred to be a nice runner comes off a nice break for this return run. Gets in light with bug boy that won more than 100 races last year which is amazing. This one is a surprise package in this spot, do not ignore. #3 Maine debuts for Smarty Jones trainer off some solid workouts. Bred to be a good runner I anticipate a good performance from this runner today.

Race Seven Selections: 8-9-7-3

#8 Alfie Solomons won the debut like a good horse then went west and found the competition a bit salty. Although this one tries dirt for the first time the pedigree indicates this runner should love the surface. Rates a long look today.

#9 Nettleton another runner from the same sire trying dirt for the first time. This runner should find the competition more to his liking and will offer value at the window. #7 Fast Loaded has won both of his races showing speed. The rivals today are a bit tougher than last out, but speed is always dangerous and to be respected.

Race Eight Selections: 7-1-10-8

#7 Starship Jubilee looks like a short-priced favorite in this spot. Runner has shown an affinity for the surface and with a clean trip will be the one to deny.

#1 Beautiful Lover comes off a break for Chad Brown in this event. Horse has had success over this course before and appears formidable again off the layoff. #10 Una Luna showed speed and faded last out however the flow of the race today can see this one potentially having an easy half an if able to relax can take them much further at a good number.

Race Nine Selections: 1-6-8-3

#1 Extravagant Kid loves the surface and the distance and with the rail draw should get a good ground saving trip on or close to the pace. Give this one a big shot in this spot.

#6 Lady’s Island has become a win machine and does not seem to be slowing down. Runner has ran the competition off their feet last few and will be tough to deny once again today. #8 Jackson went to Tampa last race and found friendlier waters and got a nice victory. The waters are much deeper today however runner is in good form and may hold for a share.

Race Ten Selections: 8-9-6-2

#8 Second Mate likes to run late and will need some luck and a good trip however runner could upset the applecart in this spot. Jose Ortiz is one of the best riders in the game and will give this one every opportunity to make a significant impact.

#9 March to the Arch gets major class relief in this spot and should find the rivals more palatable today and rates a big shot. #6 Class and Cash has speed which is always dangerous however rider will need to position this one carefully to have an impact at the wire.

Race Eleven Selections: 5-6-4-3

#5 Salute with Honor has run well at this track and the distance should be within his scope with his pedigree. If this one is ready to roll off the layoff look out.

#6 Red Crescent looks to be competitive with this bunch today. Horse has ran well at the track and with a good trip should be right there late. #4 Jay’s Way did not appreciate the sloppy surface last out and looks to rebound in this spot today. Unlike many others in this spot this runner has had success at the trip and surface and that is not to be discounted especially with the aggressive rider in tow, beware.

Race Twelve Selections: 3-8-10-9

#3 Gosilently takes a slight drop-in class and looks to get back on the beam. Connections are top notch at the claim game and this runner looks spotted for action today.

#8 Postino’s Vow is seeking friendly competition and may have found it in this spot. Horse struggles to make it to the winners’ circle however against this field looks competitive. #10 Year of the Kitten comes in off a nice victory last race. With a good trip no reason this one can’t go back to back.

Good stuff buddy! RT @jonathanstettin: Racing’s not Dead.
