Light Up Racing Press Release

LEXINGTON, Ky.—Leading breeders Spendthrift Farm has made a generous contribution of $50,000 to support the Light Up Racing initiative. Light Up Racing is a community-driven effort dedicated to shaping the future of thoroughbred horse racing by promoting transparency, awareness, and accountability.

The donation from Spendthrift Farm, one of the most respected breeders in the industry, is a strong statement of support for Light Up Racing, following in the path of leadership shown by Fasig-Tipton.

Spendthrift Farm’s Owner and President, Eric Gustavson, expressed his thoughts on the contribution, stating, “Our donation demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest standards of horse welfare, fostering transparency, and driving positive perception change for our industry. We were inspired to contribute by Boyd’s call to action. Our only reason for agreeing to a press release is to hopefully inspire others as well. If not us, who? If not now, when?”

Light Up Racing’s primary mission is to educate both the horse racing industry and the public on evidence-based practices, with a strong emphasis on horse welfare and transparency. Our goal is to reshape perceptions and foster a well-informed community. By providing accurate, scientifically backed information, we empower community members to become knowledgeable industry ambassadors and ensuring a sustainable and thriving future for horse racing.
