Catching Freedom has become one of the “wise guy” colts of the 150th running of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby. After an okay performance in the Grade 2 Risen Star, the son of Constitution stamped himself as one to watch at Churchill Downs when he stormed from last to first to capture the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. That race has the distinguishment of being the prep race closest to the distance of the Kentucky Derby since it is now contested at 1 3/16-mile.

With the Kentucky Derby just two days away, Ashley Tamulonis and Laura Pugh wrap up their analyses of the leading contenders by determining if Catching Freedom is a win play in the Run for the Roses or a pass on top.

What do you use to pick a Kentucky Derby winner? Ashley zooms in close on past competition and Equibase Figures, leading her to a cut and dry decision to pass on Catching Freedom. Laura, using a wider variety of figures and delving into his individual splits has determined that the Brad Cox trainee is a must play.  Who do you side with?
