Long a source of top-class racehorses, the OBS Spring Sale has grown in stature to become the world’s preeminent juvenile auction. Through the years the sale has produced a sizable roster of champions, millionaires and Breeders’ Cup winners, horses competing and succeeding at the sport’s highest levels.
Last year’s sale upholds that legacy. To date, 2022 OBS Spring graduates, on the board in 40 graded stakes, have posted 16 graded stakes victories.
Mo Strike got the ball rolling with a victory in Saratoga’s Sanford Stakes (G3). Havnameltdown took the Best Pal (G3), Bob Hope (G3), San Vicente (G2) and was second in the recent Saudi Derby (G3). And Tell Me Nolies has won the Del Mar Debutante (G1), Santa Anita’s Chandelier Stakes (G2) and finished second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2).
Packs a Wahlop took two graded stakes, scoring in Del Mar’s Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3) and Santa Anita’s Zuma Beach (G3). At Woodbine, Renegade Rebelwon the Mazarine Stakes (G3), the talented Arabian Knight scored in Oaklawn’s Southwest Stakes (G3) and Red Carpet Lady took Gulfstream’s Forward Gal (G3).
Three OBS Spring grads are on the TDN’s list of top ten Kentucky Oaks (G1) candidates, with Affirmative Lady, winner of the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) and Gazelle Stakes (G3) winner Promiseher America joining And Tell Me Nolies.
Finally, Practical Move is at or near the top of everyone’s Kentucky Derby (G1) list after winning three straight graded stakes: the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2), San Felipe Stakes (G2) and the Santa Anita Derby (G1).
