Multiple Stakes Winner Seismic Wave Opens Season in Race 3 at Gulfstream Park

May 23, 2020

There will be a jackpot pool guarantee of $1.2 million in Sunday’s 20-cent Rainbow 6 wager at Gulfstream Park. Post time for the first of 11 races is 12:45 p.m.

The popular multi-race wager has gone unsolved for the past eight racing days since a mandatory payout of $31,476.56 May 9. Multiple tickets with all six winners Saturday were each worth $23,501.92.

In the Rainbow 6, the carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will also be a Super Hi 5 carryover of $20,069.84. Four of the six races in Sunday’s Rainbow 6, which spans Races 6-11, are scheduled for the turf. The quartet attracted 50 entries, an average of 12.5 horses per race. Among the sequence are back-to-back optional claiming allowances for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/16 miles in Race 9 on the dirt and Race 10 on the grass.

Juddmonte Farms’ multiple stakes-winning homebred Seismic Wave will make his season debut in Race 3, a one-mile optional claiming allowance for 4-year-olds and up on the grass where the 4-year-old son of Tapit is the 5-2 program favorite. Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott – eight wins shy of 5,000 for his career but 0-for-29 at Gulfstream’s spring-summer meet – Seismic Wage hasn’t raced in seven months since taking the one-mile English Channel at Belmont Park. He is two-for-two on the grass at Gulfstream, breaking his maiden and winning the Cutler Bay during last winter’s Championship Meet.

Also in the field are 8-year-old Class and Cash, whose 13 career wins include the 2018 Laurel Dash; graded-stakes placed Colonist and Tizzarunner, the latter exiting a 31-1 upset at the course and distance April 23; 2019  Gio Ponti winner Temple; English Group 3 winner Monarchs Glen; and Renaisance Frolic, a two-time stakes winner on the Gulfstream turf.
