Maintaining Performance Horses
12:00 – 1:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim
Stephanie L. Church, The Horse Media Group, moderator
Our OTTBs were professional athletes well before we got them. Now we’re responsible for helping them thrive and flourish in their new roles by maintaining their soundness and stewarding their gastric and respiratory health. We’ll discuss common challenges when maintaining OTTB performance horses and take audience questions on the topic.
Panelists: Jessica Gould, DVM, MS; Sarah Reuss, VMD, Dipl. ACVIM

Back Pain and Kissing Spines
1:45 – 3:15 p.m.
Sponsored by Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital
Alexandra Beckstett, The Horse Media Group, moderator
Back pain can stem from many issues, from improper saddle fit to impinging spinous processes (aka kissing spines). It can also be secondary to lameness and other physical conditions. We’ll discuss common causes of back pain in OTTBs and take audience questions about specific issues and therapies.
Panelists: Steve Reed, DVM, Dipl. ACVIM; Larkspur Carroll, DVM

Feeding High-Energy Horses
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Sponsored by Triple Crown Nutrition
Stephanie L. Church, The Horse Media Group, moderator
Designing OTTB diets can be tricky, as some horses need more body condition but are hot-tempered and excitable. We’ll discuss cool vs. hot calories, supporting the gut, helping the horse gain weight and topline and what forages, feeds and supplements are useful in that quest.
Panelists: Jyme Nichols, PhD; Bill Vandergrift, PhD
