LEXINGTON, Ky. – G. Watts Humphrey Jr.’s homebred Lincoln Highway took the lead at the eighth pole and held off a late bid from Mackillop to win Thursday’s featured $109,100 Betz Purse for 3-year-olds and up by a neck.
Trained by Vicki Oliver and ridden by Luis Saez, Lincoln Highway completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.33 over a turf course labeled as good.
A Kentucky-bred son of Quality Road out of the Empire Maker mare Frivolous, Lincoln Highway improved his record to 6-2-0-1 and increased his career earnings to $151,731 with Thursday’s $62,233 check.
Lincoln Highway returned payoffs of $9.34, $5.60 and $4.06. Mackillop, ridden by Julien Leparoux, returned $7.58 and $5.06 with Clyde’s Got a Gun rallying for third under Orlando Mojica and paying $5.28 to show.
Racing continues Friday afternoon with a 10-race program that begins at 1 p.m. ET. Keeneland will offer a Pick 6 carryover of $24,717.54.
