Kentucky Derby Radar: Owners Stick w/ Baffert + Southwest, Withers, Robert Lewis, Holy Bull Previews

February 1, 2024

We have a four-pack of Kentucky Derby prep races this weekend. Before Jon and Jim handicap the races, the pair discuss owners sticking by trainer Bob Baffert and not handing their horses off to other trainers, effectively ending their chances of racing on the first Saturday in May.

Jon and Jim discuss what this means for the Kentucky Derby if there should be an asterisk on Derby 150 since it may not have the best horses running, and how CDI has handled this Baffert suspension.

Then they get into their selections for the race… who may beat Fierceness in the Holy Bull, plus a few contenders to keep an eye on in the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

The Withers at Aqueduct and the Robert Lewis at Santa Anita also get discussed.

“For the best in horse racing, I read Past the Wire, and you should read it too.” Tommy Massis, Racehorse owner, Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge Champion
