Keeneland Grad Early Voting Wins Preakness

LEXINGTON, KY – Klaravich Stables’ Early Voting – purchased for $200,000 at Keeneland’s 2020 September Yearling Sale – led a sweep of September Sale graduates in today’s 147th running of the $1.5 million Preakness (G1) at Pimlico. Seven of the nine horses entered in the 1 3/16-mile race – including runner-up Epicenter and third-place finisher Creative Minister – are graduates of Keeneland sales. 

Early Voting is the 27th Preakness winner produced by Keeneland sales. Twelve of the past 16 Preakness winners are graduates of Keeneland sales: the filly Swiss Skydiver (2020), War of Will(2019), undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify (2018), Cloud Computing (2017), Exaggerator(2016), Oxbow (2013), Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another (2012), Shackleford (2011), Lookin At Lucky (2010), Big Brown (2008) and Curlin (2007). 

A colt by Gun Runner bred by Three Chimneys Farm, Early Voting was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, to the September Sale, where he sold to Triphammer Farm for $200,000. Chad Brown trains Early Voting, who was ridden by Jose Ortiz. 

Epicenter races for Winchell Thoroughbreds of Joan Winchell and Ron Winchell, who bought the colt for $260,000 at the September Sale. He is trained by Steve Asmussen.Trainer Kenny McPeek, agent, purchased Creative Minister at the September Sale for $180,000 from the consignment of St George Sales. The colt is owned by Fern Circle Stables, Back Racing and Magdalena Racing.
