Irish Equine Industry Welcomes Governor Larry Hogan and Maryland Delegation to Ireland

September 1, 2022

THE CURRAGH, Ireland—Governor Larry Hogan along with an equine delegation from Maryland travelled to Ireland to meet and increase links with the Irish industry. Our team were very happy to have met the Governor while working at the 147th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Maryland.

Our team helped to organise a number of different events from the Governor and his team while they were in Ireland. We aided in organising a visit to Trinity College Dublin and in particular seeing Tangent’s Innovation space in the new Trinity Business School. There the Governor and his team met this year’s Launchbox companies. Equine MediRecord was founded in Launchbox and was the winner of the program back in 2017. You can learn more about Tangent on their website here.

Our team also arranged a visit to Owning Hill near Piltown in County Kilkenny, Carriganóg Racing which is headed up by Joseph O’Brien and is based in a yard that is steeped in racing history.

Joseph’s grandfather Joe Crowley was the first to train from the yard on Owning Hill and enjoyed great success there. In later years, Joseph’s parents Annemarie and Aidan were both crowned Irish Champion National Hunt Trainers while based there and Annemarie’s sister Frances also trained an abundance of winners from the yard. Quite literally thousands of winners have been trained on its famous uphill gallop over the decades. With there having been substantial improvements and developments made to the yard in recent years, it is now very much a world-class training facility. You can learn more about Joseph’s operation on his website here.

Co-ordinating with the Governor’s team and the wider Irish Equine industry we held a reception for the delegation in Dublin to help increase ties between the delegation and the equine industry in Ireland in a more informal setting. This was attended by a number of Irish politicians including Fine Gael Senator Barry Ward.
