I’mgonnabesomebody Scores Career Stakes Three in All American

BERKELEY, Calif.—Golden Gate Fields local I’mgonnabesomebody was certainly a somebody on Memorial Day Monday 2023 at Golden Gate, defeating a strong group of entrants in the featured eighth race of the day: the $100,000 All American Stakes for 3-year-olds and up. With the win, I’mgonnabesomebody recorded his third lifetime stakes victory.

Ridden by Alexander Chavez for the first time, I’mgonnabesomebody broke from the gate sharply, stalked the speed in the early stages, and moved up to press early pacesetter Mastering down the backstretch. Around the far turn, I’mgonnabesomebody engaged Mastering, took the lead in midstretch and sailed home to a length and a half victory. The final time for one mile on Tapeta was 1:36.43. Bill McLean trains the 5-year-old chestnut gelding.

I’mgonnabesomebody, sent off at odds of 5-1, paid $12.00 to win, $6.00 to place, and $4.00 to show. Second place finisher American Farmer paid $15.00 to place and $8.40 to show. Rounding out the trifecta was Tripoli, who returned $4.00 to show. Rio King placed fourth followed by even money favorite Royal Ship, Mastering and Royal ‘n Rando.  

I’mgonnabesomebody, purchased for $30,000 as a yearling at the 2019 Keeneland September sale, earned $60,000 for the All American win and improved his lifetime bankroll to $242,380. His career record now reads 7 wins, 3 runner up finishes, and 2 thirds from 17 starts. The son of Will Take Charge was bred in Kentucky by Elm Tree Farm LLC and is owned by the partnership group of Nin Auyeung, Phillip Crosby, Cheryl Hauck, Bill McLean, Todd Miller, Elizabeth Moran, and Marilyn Taylor.
