Hall Of Fame Sportscaster Lesley Visser Set For Return To Hialeah Park

January 6, 2020

Hialeah, FL / January 6, 2020 – Hall of Fame sportscaster Lesley Visser, who covered major sporting events around the world during an incomparable career in network broadcasting, fondly remembers the first time she ever saw a thoroughbred horse race in person.

“It was in 1973 at Hialeah Park,” she recalled. “I was in school at Boston College and a group of us decided to spend spring break in Fort Lauderdale.”

“Some of my classmates were racing fans,” Visser added. “We decided to visit Hialeah Park for the Flamingo Stakes. It became the year of Secretariat’s Triple Crown, but I liked Our Native and he won the race. Hialeah Park was just like the postcards: the majestic clubhouse, the swaying palm trees, and the beautiful flamingos.”

Lesley Visser will return to Hialeah Park on Sunday January 12, 2020 for the National Horseplayers Championship qualifying tournament at Champions Simulcast Center & Sports Bar as part of the executive team for event sponsor Altitude International, Inc.

“Altitude International was established by my husband Bob Kanuth,” Visser said. “It’s a cutting-edge training system for all athletes — human and equine. The theory is understood by answering a few basic questions: Why is our Olympic training facility at a mile high in Colorado Springs, Colo.? Why do runners from Kenya who train at high altitude win so many marathons? It’s because the science of altitude training is undeniable!”

“We’re thrilled to sponsor the NHC qualifier at Hialeah Park, “she exclaimed. “We can’t wait to meet some of the best handicappers in the country and have the privilege of sending the winner to the National Horseplayers Championship final tournament in Las Vegas.”

Champions Simulcast Center & Sports Bar, a state of the art off-track wagering facility, is located on the second floor of Hialeah Park’s historic clubhouse at 2200 East 4th Avenue in Hialeah.

Handicappers can purchase their entries in the qualifying tournament by visiting the Hialeah Park web site at www.hialeahparkcasino.com or by calling (305) 758-8681.

The $300 entry fee for current NHC tour members covers a $200 live bankroll for wagering on designated races at Gulfstream Park, Aqueduct, and Tampa Bay Downs. A total of $10,000 will be awarded on site at the conclusion of the Hialeah Park qualifier, with $5,000 going to the winner.
