LEXINGTON, Ky.— Gunite, winner of the 2021 Hopeful (G1), and Pinehurst, winner of the 2021 Runhappy Del Mar Futurity (G1), highlight a roster of 34 nominations for the 14th running of the $250,000 Perryville (L) for 3-year-olds to be run Saturday, Oct. 22 going 7 furlongs on the main track.
Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds and trained by Steve Asmussen, Gunite has won three of five starts in 2022. He finished second to Jack Christopher in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) at Saratoga this summer.
Owned by the partnership of SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables and Siena Farm, et al, Pinehurst has won one of four starts this year with that triumph coming in the 1-mile Saudi Derby (G3). Pinehurst now is trained by Brendan Walsh.
