Game of Silks – Reflections, Week of 7/17/23

July 24, 2023

By 2YO EdgeMan

The Game of Silks continues to grow as a dynasty fantasy sports game set in the high-stakes real world of thoroughbred horseracing in the U.S. – and last week was really exciting.  Again, if you have not yet jumped in and created your very own avatar and minted a horse or bought one in an auction, it is absolutely not too late to become a part of this wonderful community (go check out www.silks.io for more info).

As you’ll see from the chart below, there are quite a number of excellent two-year-olds still ‘in the pool’ and ready & waiting to join your dynasty (those that show an owner as ‘The Game of Silks’ are still ‘unowned’).  As we did last week, we bring you a summary of a majority of the two-year-old races with purses of $50,000 or more, since Monday, 7/17/23.  There were several more races where Silks owners cheered home their winner, but again this article is designed to give you a flavor of the richer races.  Plus, don’t forget, your horse doesn’t even have to win a race for you to get a share of the purse!

You can see that there were some pretty valuable two-year-old Maiden Special Weight races last week.  Also, remember that although our focus is on the juveniles at the 2YO Edge, most of these horses will continue running next year as three-year-olds and beyond, continuing to earn their Silks’ owners’ big rewards.  And the 2YOs of next year will be offered for minting later this year as ‘yearlings’.

The Silks Race of the Week was the first one listed below in the chart – Wednesday, July 19 – Saratoga Race 6.  The winning owner of that race in the Game of Silks was ‘charbo’.  In this first race of her career, the winner – Queen’s Martini – sat quietly about five or six lengths behind the leader before tipping to the outside at the head of the stretch and turning on the afterburners to score by nearly six lengths.  It was a fantastic win for charbo who went on to capture two more $50,000+ races on Sunday at Ellis Park, for a total of three wins last week at this $50,000+ level.  A big congrats goes out to charbo – my ‘Silks Owner of the Week’!
