Game of Silks – Reflections, Week of 11/6/23

November 13, 2023

By 2YO EdgeMan

If you are not yet involved with the Game of Silks, I highly encourage you to check it out right now at silks.io  Yes, it is a fantastic, fantasy thoroughbred horsing racing game that pays out big rewards, but it goes so far beyond that.  It is truly a community of terrific people that cheer for each other and for their peer’s horses when they compete.  Their recent Meetup at the Breeders’ Cup was second to none.  The smiles and the comradery were special.  Kudos to all involved.  Is it too late to join in on the fun (and the rewards)?  Absolutely not!

As you can see from the table below highlighting several of the races last week that carried a purse of $50,000+, it was another dynamic week of excitement and ETHs being paid out right and left.  Again, these are just the winning horses and Silks owners of these races that carried a big purse that are listed – Silks pays out rewards to the Top 4 finishers in each race.  Also, remember, this list captures just a handful of the races from last week – there are just too many to list in this column!

Last Friday, November 10, saw Del Mar open their gates for their 2023 Fall Meet.  The fourth race was a $61,000 affair for two-year-old Maiden Special Weights around the two-turn dirt mile course.  Colorado Crusier took the lead shortly after leaving the gate and was set down on the lead into the first turn.  He went quickly through the first quarter, tripping the timing at 21.44 seconds.  However, soon the lead changed hands and Point Dume put his head in front at the half mile pole as he set a 44.94 second clip.  Meanwhile, after an awkward first 50 yards, Flavien Prat got the Bob Baffert trained, $1.7 million dollar yearling – Coach Prime – rolling late in the last turn, as he split horses approaching the head of the stretch and then it was ‘Katy bar the door’.  Coach Prime was gone in a flash and finished over seven lengths ahead of his nearest competitor in a final time of 1:37.18, which equated to an amazing 96 Equibase Speed Figure.

The lucky owner of this guy in the Game of Silks is Vshakerfarms.  There is no doubt that Vshaker has a monster on their hands and they have to be excited about the future with this colt by Quality Road.  For this outstanding win, for the second time, I’m giving my esteemed Game of Silks’ Owner of the Week award to Vshakerfarms.  Congratulations!

@jonathanstettin Thank you. This is a truly beautiful tribute to a racing legend. Good to hear the true story of what happened that day.
