Last week, Churchill Downs showcased their second card of the year filled with all two-year-old (including a number of stakes events). So, it made it an extra special week for the Game of Silks. One of those races was on Saturday, 11/25/23 – it was the $400,000 Golden Rod Stakes for fillies contested over One and 1/16 Miles on the dirt. Eight gals entered the gate, but West Sunset was the first out of there and led through the opening ¾ of a mile in 1:12.48. However, she ran out of steam nearing the head of the stretch and Intricate, with Tyler Gaffalione in the saddle, split horses and came charging into the lead. She never looked back and hit the wire more than five lengths clear of the rest of the field.
Trained by Brendan Walsh, this filly by Gun Runner is going to be a good one. She’s owned in Silks by Lighthouse Racing and for this big win, I’m presenting my coveted Game of Silks’ Owner of the Week award to this fine owner. Congratulations Lighthouse Racing!
