Del Mar presents the new “Art of Racing”

August 5, 2022

DEL MAR, Calif. — “The Art of Racing,” a new twist on an old Del Mar theme, will come full blown this Saturday at the track around its large Plaza d’Mexico fountain starting at 12 noon and going forward for the rest of the afternoon.

Previously, an artist would be invited to Del Mar to display her/his wares over the course of several days under a program called “Artist of the Week.” Saturday’s show brings together seven different artists all at once and there will be equine and racing art aplenty – some of it being created right on the spot.

The artists will be selling their creations to all fans coming through the gates Saturday and it’ll be an opportunity to pick up something special for the horse lover in your life, or a fine memento of a season at the seaside oval. There will be a wine bar available to fans as they stroll through the displays and a flamenco guitar duo playing in the background to add a special touch to the atmosphere.

Here are the six of the artists and their contact websites:

Dagmar Galleithner-Steiner – dagmargalleithner.com

Sunny Patton – sunnypatton.com

Heather Roddy – heather-roddy.pixels.com

Mark Sherman – facebook.com/MarkShermanWatercolors

Amy Treadway – treadwayfineart.com

Kandace Wilson – swingdoorstudio.com

Additionally, our seventh artist, Mark Martensen, will be on board for the day but his website is in the process of being updated.

The seven artists are all known locally, and several are national in their scope. Three of them – Galleithner-Steiner, Roddy, and Treadway – have had their works displayed previously at Del Mar either on the track’s program and/or Media Guide covers or through classic portraits of the track’s Pacific Classic winners.

@jonathanstettin That was damn near evangelical. You’re one of the few experts a novice like me can depend on. Keep up the good work!
