Aidan O’Brien’s reach leads to his deep pool of riding talent being stretched thin at times. It seems this led to William Buick getting the call on Van Beethoven in the group 1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French Two Thousand Guineas) on May 12.
William Buick will be having his seventh career ride for the O’Brien team, and only the second since signing on with Sheikh Mohammed and Coolmore rival Godolphin back in 2015. His most recent call from O’Brien was Sizzling in last season’s Fillies & Mares Stakes (Grade 1) on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.
Stablemate Never No More will be ridden by Ryan Moore in a field of 12 for the first French colts’ classic of the season. Odds-on favorite Persian King will be aiming to back up the form of the QIPCO Two Thousand Guineas (Grade 1) despite forecast soft ground, something he has yet to encounter in five career starts.
