Coach John Calipari To Draw Breeders’ Cup Classic

Draw will be open to the general public; free admission with no ticket required

LEXINGTON, Ky.— The Rood & Riddle Breeders’ Cup Post Position Draw for the 2022 World Championships at Keeneland Race Course will take place on Monday, Oct. 31 at legendary Rupp Arena, home of the Kentucky Wildcats, in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET. The Draw will offer free admission to the general public with no ticket required. Doors open to the public at 2:00 p.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 31 at Rupp Arena.

The Draw will be hosted by racing broadcasters Britney Eurton (NBC Sports/FanDuel TV) and Rishi Persad (ITV/Sky Sports) and feature a special appearance by renowned University of Kentucky men’s basketball head coach John Calipari. Coach Cal will draw the post positions for the $6 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1). He will be joined by the University of Kentucky marching band, cheerleaders, and dance team to provide Breeders’ Cup guests with a true Rupp Arena experience.

This will be the second time Coach Cal draws the post positions for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. In 2015, he drew the field for the Breeders’ Cup Classic that was won by Triple Crown and Grand Slam winner American Pharoah. Prior to the start of the draw, a private tour and reception will be held for Breeders’ Cup participating owners and trainers in the UK men’s basketball team locker room.

“I’m delighted that our guests from all over the world will get a true Kentucky welcome to the 2022 World Championships by attending the Draw at the iconic Rupp Arena with a living Kentucky legend drawing the post positions for the Classic,” said Breeders’ Cup President and CEO Drew Fleming. “We’re so grateful to all the racing participants who are traveling from near and far to be with us in Lexington and we look forward to a week of fun events and incredible action on the track.”

The post positions for all 14 World Championships races will be drawn and announced live on FanDuel TV and streamed on the Breeders’ Cup website, Official Mobile App, and FacebookTwitter, and YouTube channels. A special FanDuel TV preview show will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET.

“Thank you to all our racing participants, to the city of Lexington, to our partners at Keeneland, to the University of Kentucky Athletics Department, and of course to Coach Cal for helping us kick off Breeders’ Cup Week in a big way,” continued Fleming.

Public parking for the Post-Position Draw is available at Gate 1 or Gate 2 from High Street. Enter the arena lobby doors, located on the plaza facing the Hyatt. From the concourse level proceed to seat sections 13-15. For more information, visit BreedersCupFestival.com.
