2019 Black Eyed Susan Stakes Day Recap

A recap of the 2019 Black Eyed Susan Stakes day from Pimlico:

Chalon came back from a layoff to score easily in the Skipat Stakes under Javier Castellano. Trainer Arnaud Delacour had her ready to fire her A-game and she did. She finished the six furlongs in 1:09.46 and paid $3.20 as the odds on choice.

Covfefe ran a hole in the wind breaking the track record in the Ms. Preakness (Grade 3). She was also ridden by the white hot Javier Castellano and finished in a blazing 1:07.70 for the three quarters of a mile. Covfefe is trained by Brad Cox. She returned $5.60 to win.

The Hilltop went to the Chad Brown trained Dogtag under who else but Javier Castellano. She held off stablemate Nova Sol making her US debut. Dogtag paid $8.20 as co second choice.

The Grade 3 Pimlico Special run at a mile and a quarter went to Tenfold who bulled his way through the field in the stretch under an aggressive ride by Ricardo Santana Jr. The Steve Asmussen trained 4 year-old paid $12.20.

The day’s feature, the 2019 Black Eyed Susan Stakes (Grade 2) went to George Weaver trained Point of Honor who made a wide move into the stretch under yet again Javier Castellano to run down a game Ulele under Joel Rosario. Point of Honor returned $7.80 and ran the mile and an eighth in 1:47.88.
