LEXINGTON, Ky. – A daughter of Nyquist sold for $375,000 to Legion Bloodstock, agent for Icon Racing, and recorded the highest price of Tuesday’s eighth session of theKeeneland September Yearling Sale.
From the family of Racing Hall of Famer and Broodmare of the Year Personal Ensign, she is out of the winning Awesome Again mare Raise the Flag. The filly was consigned by St George Sales, agent.
On Tuesday, Keeneland sold 286 yearlings through the ring for $20,827,500, for an average of $72,823 and a median of $55,000. The gross is 3.02% below the eighth session in 2023, when 301 horses sold for $21,476,500. The average is 2.06% above $71,350 in 2023, while the median is 10% ahead of last year’s $50,000.
Through eight sessions of the 12-day sale, a total of 1,740 yearlings have sold for $382,469,500, which is 4.52% higher than the corresponding period last year when 1,805 horses brought $365,943,000. Average price of $219,810 is 8.42% above the $202,739 from 2023, and the median of $150,000 is 20% more than $125,000 last year.
In other sales Tuesday, Dixiana Farms sold a daughter of Justify for $360,000 to Bang Bang. Out of the Fastnet Rock mare Rock the Beat (IRE), she is from the family of Irish highweight Beauty Bright and Group 3 winner Dietrich.
Jim and Dana Bernhard’s Pin Oak Stud paid $350,000 for a colt by Street Sense consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised. Out of stakes-placed winner Valuable Package, by Kantharos, he is from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Carr De Naskra and Grade 3 winner Derwin’s Star.
Taylor Made Sales Agency was the session’s leading consignor by selling 32 yearlings for $2.54 million.
A filly by Good Magic out of the winning Bernardini mare What’s News brought a bid of $310,000 from Red Wings. Consigned by ELiTE, agent, the filly is from the family of Grade 2 winner Bickersons.
Fillies by McKinzie drew two of the day’s top prices.
Peter Bradley Thoroughbreds, agent, went to $275,000 to acquire a daughter of McKinzie from the family of Grade 2 winner Payton d’Oro. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent, the filly is out of the winning Uncle Mo mare Mo Knows.
Another daughter of McKinzie sold to Kenneth McPeek, agent, for $270,000. Out of Raindrops Droptops, by Medaglia d’Oro, she is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Gaslight Dancer and from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Wild Rush, Grade 2 winner Lewis Bay and Grade 3 winners Lost Raven, Misconnect and Winslow Homer. Warrendale Sales, agent, consigned the filly.
Spending $1,057,000 for eight yearlings, Kenneth McPeek, agent, was the leading buyer.
Also sold for $275,000 was a colt by City of Light acquired by Jerry Crawford for Donegal Racing. Out of the Indian Charlie mare Chuckling, he is from the family of Grade 1 winners Pleasant Home and Guarana. The colt was consigned by Indian Creek, agent.
Louis Dubois, agent for Wesley Ward, paid $260,000 for a colt by Twirling Candy from the family of a horse Ward trained, European champion and multiple Group 1 winner Lady Aurelia. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised, he is out of the winning Munnings mare Lady Pauline.
A colt from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Charlatan sold for $200,000 to Patti and Hal Earnhardt. Consigned by Brookdale, agent for Jack Swain, he is from the family of champion Epitome; Grade 2 winners War Story and Land Over Sea; and Grade 3 winner Shared Property. His dam is Overjoyed, a winning daughter of Medaglia d’Oro.
