KEE1:040723 – ‘The Maestro’ – Wesley Ward – gets off to a blazing start as the breeder, owner and trainer of the meet’s first 2YO race of the year – #3 Bledsoe. Joel Rosario gave him a perfect trip, stalking around the turn and then finding plenty of room in the two-path turning for home to score by 1 ½ easy lengths, stopping the timer at 53.21 seconds for the 4 ½ furlongs on the fast, dirt track. His effort earned a nifty 87 Equibase Speed Fig while making his backers slightly richer – $3.56 for every $2W ticket.
Our pick – #6 Early Munny – broke reasonably, but seemed a bit shy in traffic shortly out of the gate and then dropped back through the turn. He did some running along the rail in the lane, but still could only muster an 8th place finish in the field of 11 that went postward. #7 – Mischief Joke – a Practical Joke colt (out of a Distorted Humor mare), the runner up finisher, did run well late, although a bit green, but was no match for the winner.
Next race is the 2nd at KEE, this Wednesday, 4/12/23. We’ll have a ‘Picks, Plays and Pontification’ breakdown of that one for you right here on Tuesday, so be there or be square, my diligent Edgies.
It was a big day for two-year old racing in the meta verse also. Opening day at Keeneland marked the historic first day of actual racing of Silks’ horses. You can learn more about Silks, how to play, how to get yourself involved and even get a Silks horse racing at Keeneland at Game of Silks. As things turned out, the Silks’ horses did pretty well:
NYRA’s own Maggie Wolfendale owns the third place finisher Callin My Name. Silks’ horses mirror real racing and results and you can find yourself competing in The Sport of Kings. Two-Year-Old Racing resumes at Keeneland Wednesday April 12th, 2023. Check out which horses may still be available at Silks. All the horses in the Keeneland opening race of the season had been sold:
