SARATOGA SPRINGS — A racing trivia night, a Travers Stakes poster signing with the connections of Tiz the Law, and a children’s book author signing highlight some of the upcoming events at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
Trivia Night with ThoroFan set for Aug. 23
The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is partnering with ThoroFan for “Trivia Night at the Museum” on Monday, Aug. 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Museum. Contestants can compete individually or as a team (maximum of four people) for great prizes as they test their knowledge of thoroughbred racing. Renowned track announcer Tom Durkin will serve as the “Quizmaster.” Tickets, which include two drink tickets and light food, are $15 for Museum members and $25 for non-members and may be purchased here:
Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each of three rounds, as well as to the overall points winner for the event.

Travers Stakes poster signing with Tiz the Law connections Aug. 24
Renowned equine artist Greg Montgomery and the connections of 2020 Travers Stakes winner Tiz the Law — jockey Manny Franco, trainer Barclay Tagg, and Sackatoga Stable operating manager Jack Knowlton — will sign copies of Montgomery’s 2021 Travers Stakes poster on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This year’s poster, which is the 36th in Montgomery’s iconic series honoring the Travers, features Tiz the Law winning the 151st edition of the Midsummer Derby. Posters will be available for purchase for $50.
Exactly one year after winning his career debut at Saratoga Race Course, Tiz the Law returned to the famous Spa oval with a 5½-length victory in the 2020 Travers with Franco in the irons. The New York-bred son of Constitution entered the Travers following victories in the Belmont Stakes, Florida Derby, and Holy Bull Stakes. Tiz the Law was retired earlier this year with a career record of 6-1-1 from nine starts and earnings of $2,735,300. He is now a stallion at Coolmore America in Kentucky.
J. M. Chodkowski to sign copies of “Dinky Becomes a Racehorse” Sept. 2
Author J. M. Chodkowski will sign copies of her new children’s book “Dinky Becomes a Racehorse” at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Thursday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. Appropriate for ages 8 through 12, the book tells the story of a horse from his birth on a farm to his career on the racetrack. He looks different than the other racehorses because he is round, not angular like a typical thoroughbred. He doesn’t find out he looks different until his first race. The book explains how it takes many humans to provide the training and care needed to develop horses for racing, and in Dinky’s case, much love.
Chodkowski has written several popular books on the sport of thoroughbred horse racing since her first effort, “The Anatomy of Horse Race Handicapping Or How to Have Fun at the Track,” in 2013. Her other books are the series, “A Year in the Anatomy of Horse Race Handicapping,” where each volume contains a specific year’s weekly articles called the Tip-of-the-Week. These articles are enhanced with photos taken by well-known equine photographers, such as, Rick Samuels of The Bloodhorse and Wally Skalij of the Los Angeles Times.
