Jeff Metz has trained Thoroughbreds for more than 30 years, competing primarily in Southern California while also maintaining a strong presence at Turf Paradise and Emerald Downs.
A four-time leading trainer at Emerald Downs, Jeff once equaled the track’s single-season record for victories. He has trained multiple stakes horses and year-end champions, including Kaabraaj, who set the Washington state record for six furlongs with a time of 1:06.86.
Jeff brings Past the Wire something that can’t be learned from a past performance or a press box: the perspective of someone who has spent decades on the backside actually training racehorses.
Based in San Dimas, California, Jeff and his family are deeply involved in racing, with his wife Jennifer and children Zoe and Josh also working at Southern California tracks. He remains passionate about introducing new owners to Thoroughbred racing through partnerships and giving them an opportunity to experience the sport from the inside.
