Sunday’s Late Pick 5 Carryover – $128,764

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – e Five Racing Thoroughbreds’ Sound Machine rallied along the rail to capture Saturday’s $75,000 Musical Romance Stakes, stamping herself as a candidate for the $350,000 Princess Rooney (G2), a Breeders’ Cup ‘Win and You’re In’ race on the July 3 Summit of Speed program at Gulfstream Park.

Sound Machine, who finished second in the March 20 Hurricane Bertie (G3) before finishing a disappointing fourth in a recent optional claiming allowance, was trapped down on the rail for most of the 6 ½ furlongs on the stakes for Florida-bred fillies and mares but found room under Edgard Zayas to stage a winning rally when pacesetter Bramble Berry drifted to the outside on the turn into the homestretch.

“She had a little trouble in her last race, but she didn’t fire her best race either. Today, we had her back in form. Early on it looked like she would get beat, but Edgard found room,” trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. said. “Today, she showed a new dimension. She kicked in and showed a lot of determination. Normally, she’s a little fragile, mentally, she can’t handle that adversity. I was proud to see could handle it today.”

Sound Machine ($6.40) raced in fourth along the backstretch while trapped down on the rail as Bramble Berry showed the way while settle fractions of 22.49 and 45.14 seconds for the first half mile. The Joseph-trained Loriloupies made a move into contention on the far turn, followed by a four-wide move by Heiressall on the turn into the homestretch. As the two outside challengers’ bids stalls and Bramble Berry drifted to the outside, Sound Machine cut the corner and responded with a determined drive under the Zayas’ strong urging, drawing off to win by three lengths. Bramble Berry held on to finish second ahead of another Joseph trainee, Merseyside.

Sound Machine, the 4-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, ran 6 ½ furlongs in 1:17.74.

Jesus’ Team Back on Worktab with ‘Nice, Easy Breeze’

Grupo 7C Racing Stable’s Jesus’ Team returned to the worktab at Palm Meadows, Gulfstream Park’s satellite training facility in Palm Beach Country, Saturday morning for the first time since finishing a troubled sixth in the March 27 Dubai World Cup (G1).

The multiple Grade 1 stakes-placed 4-year-old breezed three furlongs in 35.40 seconds.

“It was a nice easy breeze,” trainer Jose D’Angelo said. “I’m very happy with him. We’ll take our time with him. Maybe he will run in July.”

Prior to the Dubai World Cup, Jesus’ Team finished second behind Knicks Go in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Jan. 23 in his 2021 debut.

During an eventful 2020 campaign, the son of Tapiture captured a $25,000 claiming race before finishing fourth in the Haskell (G1), third in the Peter Pan (G3) and Preakness Stakes (G1), and second in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) behind Knicks Go. He tuned up for the Pegasus with a victory in the Claiming Crown Jewel.

Rainbow 6 Solved Saturday for $400,000 Jackpot Payoff

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 was solved Saturday at Gulfstream Park for a jackpot payoff of $400,000.

The popular multi-race wager had gone unsolved for six straight racing days. There was only one ticket purchased with the winning combination of 6-3-6-1-2-4.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 will start anew Sunday with a guaranteed jackpot pool of $100,000.

Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 5-10, highlighted by the $60,000 Biscayne Bay, a five-furlong overnight handicap for fillies and mares on turf, in Race 9. Trainer Steve Dwoskin’s Choose Joy has been rated as the 2-1 morning-line favorite in a field of seven off a 1 ¼-length victory in the Golden Beach last time out.

Steven Duffield’s Sav is scheduled to make her first start for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. after finishing in the money in 12 of 15 career starts over Woodbine’s synthetic and turf surfaces. Matriarca’s Lagertha is slated to challenge Choose Joy again after finishing second in the Golden Beach.

There will be a Late Pick 5 (Races 6-10) carryover of $128,764.62.
