RIP Lure, A Great Champion

November 17, 2017

Lure was about as good a turf miler as you’ll find. He won the Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile twice and downed horses like champ Paradise Creek and many others in his career.

He had speed, class, and heart. One of the races that sticks out most to me besides his second Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile win, which was from the outside with a carried wide terrible trip, was his Gotham Stakes. He went through blistering splits head and head with Devil His Due while down on the inside. He came again on the rail for the win, and on the dirt which nobody knew at the time wasn’t his preferred surface.

He was a classy horse who had it all. RIP Lure.
