RIP Garrett Gomez

December 15, 2016

Reports began breaking last night on social media that jockey Garrett Gomez had passed away. Unfortunately the reports were confirmed and apparently Garrett was found unresponsive in an Arizona hotel room in a casino on Indian land near Tucson where he was born in 1972. It appears Garrett was living or staying in a trailer in Tucson and not at his last known residence in Duarte California near Santa Anita. It was reported he checked into the hotel after receiving a check for a stallion share he owned.

It is a sad day in our sport. I’m sure more details will come out in the coming days, but none will bring Garrett Gomez back. It is widely known Garrett battled personal demons a large part of his life, and we all rooted for him on and off the track. RIP Garrett.

Garrett Gomez……..

@jonathanstettin I for one can still actually feel the pall cast over the crowd and game that day. It was palpable. Kudos 2/2
