ELMONT, N.Y. – The Pick 6 on Saturday’s card at Belmont Park will be bolstered by a $62,206.14 carryover, as the multi-race wager went unsolved on Friday.
The $1 Pick 6, implemented at the current 48-day Belmont spring/summer meet, returned $647.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.
Friday’s sequence started with Shesawildjoker [No. 2], piloted by Jose Ortiz, winning the fourth race in capturing the 5 1/2-furlong maiden sprint for New York-bred juvenile fillies. Shesawildjoker, trained by David Donk, paid $6.10 as the 2-1 favorite.
Another New York-bred favorite, Kikkerland [No. 4] won the fifth race, capturing the six-furlong maiden claiming race for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. Kikkerland, ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr., paid $7.20.
Ortiz, Jr. won a second consecutive race when guiding Cotton [No. 7, $6.70]to victory in the one-mile Widener turf contest for maidens in Race 6. Cotton is trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse.
In Race 7, Diva Banker, off at 11-1, was victorious in a six-furlong allowance contest. Ridden by Dylan Davis and trained by Ray Handal, Diva Banker [No. 4, $25.40] won her second consecutive race.
Scuttlebuzz, a New York-bred ridden by Manny Franco and trained by Rudy Rodriguez, added another winning favorite to the mix with his score in Race 8, taking a six-furlong inner turf allowance tilt. Scuttlebuzz [No. 1, $5.60] won for the third time in four starts.
Ballydooley [No. 7] triggered the Pick 6 carryover with the day’s biggest upset in the ninth-race finale, paying $63.50 in winning for trainer Michelle Nevin. Ridden by Eric Cancel, Ballydooley earned his second straight victory.
Featuring a $1 bet minimum and 15 percent takeout, the Pick 6 wager requires bettors to select the first-place finisher of six designated races on the card. A total of 75 percent of the full pool, minus takeout, will be distributed to bettors who select the first-place finisher of all six races. A consolation payout of 25 percent of the net pool will be distributed to tickets selecting 5-of-6 winners.
In the event there are no tickets with six winners, there will be a carryover of 75 percent of the net pool into the next day of the meet with the remaining 25 percent of the net pool distributed as a consolation payout to tickets selecting the first-place finisher in the greatest number of races on the card. On carryover days, the Pick 6 is offered with a 24 percent takeout.
The $1 Pick 6 replaced the Empire 6, a jackpot style wager featuring a $0.20 bet minimum first offered in August 2019 at Saratoga Race Course.
Saturday’s Pick 6 kicks off in Race 5 at 3:02 p.m. Eastern and will include both the $150,000 New York Stallion Stakes Series Cupecoy’s Joy for 3-year-old fillies in Race 6 and the $150,000 NYSSS Spectacular Bid for sophomores in Race 9. First post is 1 p.m.
