Monday Mid-Atlantic Pick 4 Will Be an All-Turf Sequence

August 14, 2022

With Two Races Each From Monmouth Park and Colonial

OCEANPORT, N.J. – The third installment of the Monday Mid-Atlantic Pick 4, which combines two races from Monmouth Park and two from Colonial Downs, will be an all-turf sequence for Monday, Aug. 15.

Monmouth and Colonial are partnering on the new wager every Monday through Sept. 5.

Last week’s Mid-Atlantic Pick 4 returned $4,163 for .50 cents even with favorites winning both legs at Monmouth Park.

The latest Mid-Atlantic Pick 4, which has a low 15 percent takeout, starts with Monmouth Park’s fifth race on Monday (scheduled post time is 3:39 p.m.) and will be followed by the seventh race from Colonial (4:33 p.m. post time), the seventh race from Monmouth Park (4:45 p.m. post time) and the eighth race from Colonial (5:01 p.m. post time).

Monmouth Park’s fifth race, and the start to the sequence, is an optional claimer for New Jersey-bred fillies and mares, 3 and up, at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf. The Kent Sweezey-trained Perspicacious, fourth in the Jersey Girl Handicap at Monmouth Park on July 9, and the Graham Motion-trained Kitten’s Collusion, fifth in that same race, head the eight-horse field.

Monmouth Park’s seventh race is a $30,000 allowance at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf for 3-year-olds and up. Trainer Jose Sanchez, 7-for-14 at the Monmouth Park meet, will send out Hellman off a win in maiden special weight company last time out. Leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez has entered God is Love after claiming the colt for $25,000 off his last start on July 30.

A field of nine, plus one also eligible, is entered for the race.

Colonial Downs’ seventh race is a $10,000 claimer for non-winners of two at 5½ furlongs on the grass. A field of 11 has entered the wide-open affair.

Colonial’s eighth race is also at 5½ furlongs on the turf, with the $70,000 allowance attracting a field of 10.

Each week, there will be a special Monday Mid-Atlantic Pick 4 handicapping segment on the “In the Money Podcast” featuring Peter Fornatale, Nick Tammaro, and Colonial’s Jessica Paquette.  The segment will be released Monday morning and can be viewed on the In The Money Media Youtube channel or at www.inthemoneypodcast.com.

The Monday Mid-Atlantic Pick 4 wager is a separate pool and will be listed on self-service machines as MIDATLANTP4.
