Mike Pender and Marcelo Polanco Out

May 21, 2019

A pair of Southern California trainers, Mike Pender and Marcelo Polanco, have officially been ordered to vacate their stalls at Santa Anita Park.

The citations behind those orders include “an undisclosed horse welfare issue” for Pender and “training a horse on behalf of another person” for Polanco.

There was a hearing on the Pender welfare issue on May 13th,  but no details or decision have been released.

Commander Coil, euthanized at Santa Anita on Friday due to a shoulder injury suffered during a gallop, was listed as being trained by Polanco.

Mike Pender and Marcelo Polanco both join William Morey as trainers who have been sanctioned and removed from the grounds at Santa Anita Park since the meet started last December and has been marred by several fatalities.
