Hip 501 x Blind Copy sells for $800,000
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Into Mischief, last year’s champion sire and this year’s current leading sire, sold two colts for six figures each during the second session of the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.
Hip 501, a bay colt, sold for $800,000 and was purchased by Donato Lanni, agent for SF/Starlight/Madaket from the consignment of Indian Creek, agent. Hip 501 was bred in Kentucky by Fifth Avenue Bloodstock.
This colt is the first foal out the Distorted Humor mare Blind Copy, a full sister to juvenile stakes winner Lucky Folie. Second dam is the graded stakes winning Unbridled’s Song mare Lucky Copy. This is the immediate family of Grade 1 winner, multimillionaire, and sire Golden Pheasant; Grade 1 winner Henley’s Joy; and talented two-year-old graded stakes winner of 2019 Dennis’ Moment.
Hip 433 sold for $570,000 and was purchased by Donato Lanni, agent for SF/Starlight/Madaket from the consignment of Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent. He was bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm.
This colt, also bay, is out of the stakes winning Quiet American mare Twice the Lady, whose first two foals are both winners, including multiple winner Defender and recent maiden winner Run Casper Run, both colts by Ghostzapper. Twice the Lady is herself a half-sister to eight other winners, including Michelle’s Crown, dam of stakes winner Snakebite Kit, and Emmitt for Six, dam of stakes winner To Dream Again.
On Wednesday another bay colt sired by Into Mischief was very successful in the ring. Hip 274 sold for $700,000 and was purchased by Dr Dermot O’Byrne from the consignment of Denali Stud, agent. Hip 274 was bred in Kentucky by Lewis Thoroughbred Breeding.
This colt is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner and multiple graded stakes winner Made You Look. His dam is the unraced Unbridled’s Song mare Night and Day, a daughter of champion racemare Serena’s Song and a half-sister to 10 winners, including Group 1 winner Sophisticat and Grade 2 winners Grand Reward and Harlington.
Last year’s Leading Sire, Into Mischief is well on his way to repeating in 2020, with Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Authentic and Test S. (G1) winner Gamine among his current runners. Also among his nine graded stakes winners in 2020 are males Bemma’s Boy, Cool Arrow, Mischievous Alex, and Sombeyay. He also sired Grade 1 winner Audible and dual Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) Goldencents, he himself becoming a solid sire at Spendthrift.
