Low Five!

Come on now TVG. Seriously. We all understand the need for commercials, sponsors, whatever! You don’t, and we mean ever, switch to a commercial when two horses are battling neck and neck to the wire in the Grade 3 Dubai Autumn stakes at Newmarket. You don’t do that in any race. Big LOW FIVE here! And to make it worse after the commercial you go to some sports betting infomercial which would prompt anyone who can see or hear to change the channel quickly. Now don’t take this personal, it’s strictly business TVG and we are actually looking out for you.

High Five!

It may have only been a maiden claimer for 30 thousand, with a purse of 25 thousand, but Corey Lanerie rode like it was the Kentucky Derby! He had Ready and Rich on the rail and refused to succumb to the challenge of New York Style and Florent Geroux. What clinched the High Five from Past the Wire was how Corey twirled his stick and gave Geroux the business at the wire. The huge smile didn’t hurt. Yeah, we don’t miss much! All for competitiveness. Way to horseback Corey. The race was Keeneland race 8 on 10/9/2019, it is worth watching.

High Five!

High Five to the connections of Mongolian Groom for ponying up and supplementing to the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The horse deserves a shot and will get it. A High Five to Bill Mott and the connections of Tacitus for doing right by their horse also. Putting him away to have a four-year old campaign was the smart play.

Low Five!

A Low Five to the Washington Post for publishing an article calling for the banning of Horse Racing. A one sided agenda driven article. That said, the article brings out things as an industry we must address and fix, permanently, and efficiently to eliminate these types of articles having any credibility or being able to make any valid points. We’ll also throw a Low Five at “industry leaders” whomever they actually are, which remains a mystery to some degree for no real, legitimate response and solution beyond well some horses are treated well. We must do better!

Low Five!

Low Five to the mainstream media, especially some of the local Southern California outlets. With all the graded stakes, win and you’re in races for the upcoming Breeders’ Cup, and even a historic Arc overseas, all they could mention was a negative and sad morning incident.

Low Five!

We gotta give Jose Ortiz a Low Five on Elate in the Spinster. We hope Jose is a good sport as he has gotten many Past the Wire High Fives’s. Today it is a Low Five. He has to ride his horse when he rides Elate and stop looking around and riding other horses in the race. He is a great young rider and will learn and improve. That said best horse did not win the Spinster.

Low Five!

Low Five on these European past performances. If you hire Sherlock Holmes to find them, you’ll be disappointed with the lack of information they provide. They really are in need of stepping up their game.

High Five!

A Past the Wire High Five to Omaha Beach, Richard Mandella, and Mike Smith. Great job all around, scratching from the Kentucky Derby as the favorite, fixing the colts breathing problem, taking the time to do it right and coming back in of all places a sprint, and coming up the rail to nail a fast sprinter who had the lead to himself. Bravo! That is some horse training and riding right there. Oh yeah and some running by Omaha Beach too!
