Game of Silks – Reflections, Week of 12/11/23

December 18, 2023

By 2YO EdgeMan

Last week, the Game of Silks offered three dynasty packs for sale.  The Tier 1 Package was priced at $30,000; Tier 2 was listed for $60,000 and Tier 3 was up for grabs at $180,000.  Guess what, all three packages sold out quickly!  That’s an injection of another $270,000 into this fantastic fantasy racehorse game that continues to gain excitement in the racing world.  Are you a part of Silks yet?  If not, it is not too late to jump in and join the terrific community of participants and all of the fun and rewards that they are earning.  Check out silks.io now.

There were also festivities on the racetrack last week surrounding the Game of Silks, including the two $500,000 New York Stallion Series Stakes races at Aqueduct on Saturday along with the Grade 2, $200,000 Los Al Futurity at Los Alamitos.  However, the race that we want to focus on is this past Friday night’s $300,000 Springboard Mile Stakes at Remington Park.  It was a ‘Derby Prep’, meaning that the top four finishers received points toward the 2024 Kentucky Derby.  After three trainer scratches, the field was set for six colts to face off over the distance of one mile on the dirt track that was listed as muddy.  The post-time favorite was Raging Torrent at odds of 6/5.

Luis Saez and Glengarry, the third choice in the betting, made the early lead and set the fractions on the rail.  They were closely stalked to the outside by Otto the Conqueror and his pilot, Tyler Gaffalione.  By the time these two combatants hit the quarter pole, they had put six lengths between themselves and the rest of the field and it essentially became a two-horse race.  It wasn’t until this pair were inside the 1/16th pole that Otto the Conqueror started to slowly gain the advantage and hit the wire first by ¾ of a length.  Magic Grant was flying late but had to settle for third.  The winning time was 1:39.91 (Equibase Speed Figure of 83) and the victor, sired by Street Sense, paid $4.80 for $2 win tickets.  Congrats to trainer Steve Asmussen and the winning owner in real life, Three Chimneys Farm.  However, the big shout-out goes to Sunkosi Stables.  For their big win, I am giving them my prized Game of Silks’ Owner of the Week Award.  Way to go!

Check out some of the other races from last week that offered a purse of $50,000+…
