Dean Delivers Looks To Deliver in Alapocas Run

WILMINGTON, Del. —Stonehedge Farm’s Dean Delivers will be looking to deliver another stellar performance when he faces eight rivals in the $125,000 Alapocas Run Stakes this Saturday.  The six-furlong affair for 3-year-olds and upward has been carded as the seventh race with an approximate post time of 3:30 pm.

After campaigning most of his career in Florida, his connections were hoping a change of climate might help bring him back into his old form.  In his last, the 5-year-old son of Cajun Breeze notched an 8-length score in the six-furlong $104,000 Mr. Prospector at Monmouth Park on May 27.  In his other two outings this year, the Florida-bred trained by Edward “Ned” Allard finished fourth and fifth in sprint stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and Gulfstream Park.

“We have been pointing him for this race and he breezed nicely for it,” said trainer Edward “Ned” Allard.  “He came up from Florida and it looked like he needed a little change of season, so to speak, because it gets really hot down there during the summer.  His form did tail off a little bit, but as soon as he got up to the mid-Atlantic region, he kind of woke up again.  His race in the Mr. Prospector was a big effort.  I thought he was going to run well in there, but he even ran better than I thought.”

Last year, he finished third in the six-furlong Grade I Alfred G. Vanderbilt at Saratoga and won the six-furlong Grade III Smile Sprint at Gulfstream.  In 2022, he ran third in the seven-furlong Grade III Swale at Gulfstream Park.  He has a career record of six wins, eight seconds and two thirds with earnings of $562,660.
