Cigar Mile in the Cards for Maximum Security

Maximum Security probably has the inside track on three year old of the year. He can solidify that with either a win in the Cigar Mile or the Clark Handicap, both races against older horses. He already has a win against older in the Bold Ruler.

The connections recently opted for the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct following a local workout but have said The Pegasus at Gulfstream Park in late January is the first goal of 2020. Maximum Security may face a late challenge for the three year old title from Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Spun to Run. Spun to Run’s connections are considering the Cigar, Clark, and maybe even the Malibu for their late comer to the three year old championship party. Now that Maximum Security has been named for the Cigar Mile, that is likely where Spun to Run winds up as well.

Seeking the Soul is looking at the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs as his last start in 2019. McKinzie is looking at two big prizes, the rich Saudi Cup and the Dubai World Cup. Midnight Bisou is said to be pointing for the Saudi Cup as well.

The Breeders’ Cup races while important in determining championships, are not the final word. The Remsen in addition to the Cigar, Clark, and Malibu is a late race for two year olds that can impact voters. There is plenty of racing left, and much of it figures to be very good.
