BALTIMORE, Md. – Following the success of its inaugural event over the winter, the Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter (BARCS) will host a Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-Thon Saturday at historic Pimlico Race Course.
The Spring Fling Mega Adopt-a-Thon is the largest adoption event in the Baltimore area and surrounding counties and will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the second-floor grandstand and Triple Crown Room.
Sponsored by Petco Love and Pimlico, and in partnership with the Maryland SPCA, Baltimore Humane Society and Baltimore County Animal Services, the Spring Flight Mega Adopt-a-Thon will waive adoption fees for all animals including dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and small companion animals.
All adoptions are on a first come, first served basis, and families are able to bring home their new furry friends the day of the event. Cat carriers, leashes and collars will be available for purchase.
Adopters must be at least 18 and are required to bring a valid photo ID and proof of current address. No current pets are allowed. Adoption counselors from each shelter will provide thorough instructions about acclimating new pets to homes with existing pets.
Maryland Jockey Club interim president Mike Rogers said Pimlico’s initial event saw 70 animals adopted to new homes.
“With overcrowded animal shelters and soaring demand, the need to find loving homes for these vulnerable pets is always important,” Rogers said. “BARCS is a committed non-profit shelter providing refuge and care to all animals within Baltimore City. Teaming up with BARCS, three other shelters will also participate, making this a truly collaborative effort.”
Pimlico Race Course is located at 5201 Park Heights Ave. in Baltimore.
