Arrogate worked yesterday over a drying out Santa Anita strip under Martin Garcia going 6 furlongs in 1:11.94. His splits were :24.51, :47.96, :59.89, and was out 7 eights in 1:24.56.
Remaining cognizant of him missing a work due to weather, and the track was less than ideal, and he had to get a work into him despite the track if he is going to run in The Pegasus, Bob’s horses usually work fast, or at least this kind usually work faster.
With no firm plans reported yet on when Arrogate heads to Gulfstream, I just have a feeling he may skip the race. I watched his work, and I have watched him work before, and to me he looked like he was going a little harder than I would have liked. I would never question Bob Baffert, and if he is happy with the work I’d be too. He knows what to do and will do it, and do it right.
Time will tell, but I won’t be surprised if he opts for The Big Cap or something else. The Pegasus is January 28. The Santa Anita Handicap is on March 11. Stay tuned!
