HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – C2 Racing Stable LLC, Gary Barber and La Milagrosa Stable LLC’s White Abarrio breezed a sharp half-mile Thursday at Gulfstream Park in preparation for a planned start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) Nov. 1 at Del Mar.

The 6-year-old son of Race Day, who captured the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita, was timed in 46.56 seconds, out five furlongs in 59.29, after the renovation break. Thursday’s breeze was his second ‘bullet’ workout since returning to Gulfstream following a disastrous trip in the 1 ¼-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) Aug. 31 at Saratoga. The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee breezed three furlongs in a swift 33.73 Sept. 25.

“Last week’s breeze was sharp and this week’s breeze going a half is similar,” said Joseph, who has scheduled White Abarrio to ship to Del Mar Oct. 23. “He seems to be in good order and going well.”

Joseph is satisfied with White Abarrio’s level of fitness heading into the Dirt Mile.

“There’s not much we can do extra for fitness. He’s already fit,” he said. “We just want to get him in the right spot mentally to hopefully fire one of his best races again.”

White Abarrio, who won his fourth career Grade 1 stakes in the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Jan. 25, was forced into Mindframe in a dramatic incident shortly after the start of the Jockey Club Gold Cup. Jockey Edgard Zayas lost an iron and Irad Ortiz Jr. was unseated from Mindframe and momentarily landed on White Abarrio’s back before hitting the track. White Abarrio went on to finish fourth after Zayas somehow regained his balance and iron.

Joseph is also targeting Michael Ryan’s Be Your Best for the $2 million Filly & Mare Turf (G1) Nov. 1. The 6-year-old Irish-bred mare captured the May 26 Gamely (G1) at Santa Anita and the $500,000 Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf (G2) at Gulfstream Jan. 25.

He has three candidates for the $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) Nov. 1, including Haulin Ice, who won the ‘Win & You’re In’ Princess Rooney (G3) Sept. 20 at Gulfstream; R Disaster, who finished second behind Haulin Ice in the May 4 Vagrancy (G3) and is coming off a victory in the Sept. 27 Gallant Bloom (G2) at Aqueduct; and Mystic Lake, the winner of the Jan. 25 Inside Information (G2) at Gulfstream who is coming off four consecutive stakes wins.

Joseph said a decision has yet to be made on their Breeders’ Cup status.

Why did it take so long for me to find this channel? Shame on the Youtube search algorithm. I search racing topics all the time and can't remember this coming up. Thank you for actual pro content instead of the usual fugazi nonsense.
