Velazquez and Cordero part ways

March 1, 2020

Jockey John Velazquez announced through the Daily Racing Form that he and long time agent and mentor Angel Cordero have parted ways. Cordero and Velazquez have been close for years, and Angel has handled his book since the early 90’s. Velazquez has hired Ron Anderson to represent him. Anderson has been representing Joel Rosario and Umberto Rispoli who he recently brought here from Hong Kong. He will continue to represent Joel Rosario but not Rispoli. Velazquez will be his second rider. Interesting dynamics with Rosario and Velazquez, as both are considered top tier riders, and neither really is in a back up position. Rispoli is also top tier, but being new to the states, it was a more fluent scenario with him sitting behind Rosario, at least for now. There has been no announcement on who will handle Rispoli who is making an impact at Santa Anita since arriving in the US.

@jonathanstettin Well done per usual. A true horseplayer who can articulate nicely #keepitup.
